Biotechnology is the key to all technologies in modern era of Science and Technology. In the broadest sense, it is the development of any biological organism or their components into a meaningful product. Traditionally, biotechnology was used to deal with industrial microbiology and other ancient processes such as: in brewing industries or in the production of cheese, beer, vinegar, yogurt etc. In the last two decades, implementing the knowledge of genetic and protein engineering has made biotechnology a key technology to improve the lifestyle of humans. For an example, generation of transgenic plants and animals has made significant positive impacts on our health, nutrition and environment. Biotechnology embraces the new cloning technologies, and the recombinant DNA techniques which have now been used routinely to introduce precise and specific improvements in biological systems including humans, plants and agriculture. In an undergraduate program, students will be provided an instruction in the areas of genetic engineering, fermentation technology, aspects of medical research and technology, plant tissue culture, down-stream processing and protein purification.
